The Weight Is Over – Slow and Steady

I’m still keeping up the good fight.  Two weeks in and I’m down to 253.2

I’ve been keeping an eye on my caloric intake (and my sugar) using I’ve also been drinking a lot more water than I used to. Haven’t had a beer in over two weeks, which also probably helps. Of course, sometimes, you just need to have a doughnut.

Sorry diet.

Next steps: I have to actually get the motivation to get on the treadmill. I come home from work and I’m immediately exhausted. I have no more gas left in the tank and all I want to do is veg in front of the TV/XBox/PC or I go out and do the yard work that needs to be done. Maybe if I take a picture of myself in my tightest clothes and tape it to my mirror so I see it every morning, that will give me the motivation I need exercise.

I know this is more of a marathon than a sprint. I’m actually surprised I’ve lost seven pounds already but I know that it won’t last and I won’t keep losing unless I change my exercise habits (like, let’s say, any exercise at all).

I can feel it, though; I’m getting there slowly but surely. I’m working on eating right and planning my meals. Knowing where my next meal is coming from and being able to plan for the pitfalls has really helped me itemize my calorie consumption. Back in March my wife purchased a meal plan which provides us with a weekly shopping list and a menu. The menu items usually consist of foods that are in season and they are made using fresh ingredients. When we stick to the plan, I always know what my dinner is going to consist of which means I can know how much leeway I have for earlier in the day.

I know it will take a lot of work to get this weight off and keep it off but what did I really expect? It took 37 years to get this way. I also don’t want to make too many changes at once and then become completely overwhelmed. I want to adjust accordingly to each change so I can move on to the next one with complete focus.
